Fundamentals of Investment Management

Building Core Competency in Financial Markets, Asset Valuation and Portfolio Construction

Course Introduction

Every investment decision rests on a set of foundational disciplines: reading financial markets correctly, evaluating asset classes on their merits, applying sound valuation methods, and assembling portfolios that balance risk against return. As economies shift, new asset classes emerge, and regulatory expectations around sustainable investing grow, professionals working across finance, banking and wealth management need a dependable grounding in these fundamentals before they can operate with real confidence.

This Fundamentals of Investment Management training course gives participants that grounding. Rather than focusing on advanced strategy or specialist trading techniques, the course concentrates on building fluency: understanding how markets and instruments work, learning to read and value equities, bonds and alternative assets, applying core analytical models, and constructing a diversified portfolio using established, internationally recognised principles. Delegates work through practical exercises and case studies designed to translate theory into working knowledge they can apply immediately in their roles.

This Fundamentals of Investment Management training course will highlight:

  • Core structure and function of global financial markets
  • Characteristics and evaluation methods for major asset classes
  • Fundamental and technical approaches to investment analysis
  • Valuation techniques, including discounted cash flow and relative valuation
  • Diversification, asset allocation and portfolio construction basics
