An Interactive 5-Day Training Course

Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Internal Audit & Assurance

Transforming Audit Effectiveness through Generative AI, Intelligent Analytics & Agentic Assurance

NASBA

Course Introduction

This Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Internal Audit & Assurance training course explores how internal audit professionals can use emerging AI capabilities to enhance assurance while preserving the principles that underpin credible audit work. As Generative AI, Large Language Models and Agentic AI become increasingly embedded within organisations, internal auditors need to understand both how these technologies can support their own work and how to assess the risks created by organisational AI adoption.

The training course develops practical capability across the audit lifecycle. Participants examine how AI can support risk identification, audit planning, engagement scoping, document analysis, control testing, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis and audit reporting. Particular attention is given to the reliability of AI-generated information, evidence provenance, confidentiality, bias and the continued importance of professional scepticism and human oversight.

Participants will also develop the assurance perspective needed to evaluate AI governance, data and model controls, third-party solutions and lifecycle risks. The final stage considers Agentic AI and continuous assurance, including appropriate authority boundaries, human-in-the-loop controls and the capabilities required to develop an AI-enabled internal audit function.

This Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Internal Audit & Assurance training course will highlight:

  • Understanding the implications of Generative and Agentic AI for internal audit
  • Applying AI to risk assessment, engagement planning and audit execution
  • Strengthening control testing, analytics and anomaly detection using AI
  • Assessing the integrity and reliability of AI-generated information
  • Providing assurance over organisational AI governance, risk and controls
  • Preparing internal audit for Agentic AI and continuous assurance

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify appropriate opportunities for applying AI throughout the internal audit lifecycle.
  • Use AI to support risk assessment, planning, fieldwork, testing and audit analysis.
  • Evaluate AI-generated information while maintaining evidence integrity and professional judgement.
  • Assess AI governance arrangements, risk exposures and control effectiveness.
  • Evaluate the governance requirements associated with Agentic AI and continuous assurance.
  • Establish priorities for developing AI capability within the internal audit function.

Training Methodology

This training course uses expert-led presentations, audit case studies, structured discussions, practical AI applications, prompting exercises and assurance scenarios. Participants will consider realistic internal audit use cases and evaluate how AI outputs should be challenged, validated and incorporated into audit work. Practical applications also address AI governance, control assessment and the development of appropriate oversight for increasingly autonomous AI capabilities.

Organisational Impact

Organisations will benefit from:

  • Increased capability to use AI responsibly within internal audit.
  • Broader and more insightful analysis of risks and control information.
  • Improved efficiency across selected audit planning, fieldwork and reporting activities.
  • Stronger assurance over enterprise AI governance and associated risks.
  • Greater readiness for continuous auditing and AI-enabled assurance.
  • Clearer governance around the adoption of advanced AI within internal audit.

Personal Impact

Participants will develop:

  • A practical understanding of AI applications relevant to internal audit.
  • Greater confidence in using AI for audit analysis and decision support.
  • Improved ability to challenge and validate AI-generated outputs.
  • Stronger skills for assessing AI-related risks and controls.
  • Greater understanding of Agentic AI and human oversight requirements.
  • A clearer perspective on the future capabilities required of internal auditors.
